“We will make sure that all major highways are passable come this rainy season”, says Public Works Minister Mobutu Nyenpan.

 

Minister Nyenpan says his administration will work to ensure it creates access on major highways across the country. 

 

He made the statement on Saturday, February 24, 2018, when, he along with a high-powered MPW delegation including Deputy Minister for Technical Services, Claude Langley and Assistant minister for Administration conducted their first assessment of ongoing road projects in Monrovia and its environs. 

 

It is almost becoming a tradition in Liberia for primary roads to become inaccessible during rainy season due to lack of maintenance, occasion by the lack of “no money syndrome”. 

 

But amidst these challenges, the new Public Works Minister has vowed that he and his team will work to ensure that all primary roads are passable beginning this rainy season. 

 

“We will make sure that all major highways are passable come this rainy season”, he stressed looking in the faces of his engineers. 

 

The statement by the Minister is in affirmation of his confirmation statement delivered before the senate committee on public works on February 15, 2018, in which he promised the Lawmakers that no vehicle will get stuck in the mud this coming rainy season. 

 

According to the former LPRC executive, the year round accessibility will accelerate commercial activities and at the same time enhances the delivery of medical supplies across the country. 

 

With this, he said, President Weah’s pro poor agenda will take precedence once the ordinary men can be able to transport his goods and services at a lesser cost from one destination to another in exchange for what pleases them. 

 

The former Sinoe County Senator noted that, although the exercise is cost intensive, but he and his team will try as much as possible to achieve this, which he added, is at the heart beat of President George Weah’s administration.           

 

Logan Town-Bombo Town, Caldwell-Diggsville to Bardnersville, Somalia Drive, Police Academy among others are road projects that were inspected by the Minister and his team. 

 

In a technical chat with engineers briefly after the physical inspection, the Minister extended thanks and appreciation to the workers and assured them of his administration’s fullest support-emphasizing “we will ensure all working tools and protective gears are made available taking into consideration the safety of all workers regardless of status”.  

 

In addition, Minister Nyenpan pledged the CDC administration commitment in creating more opportunities through partnership intended to develop the capacity of workers especially engineers. 

 

Meanwhile, the works Minister has reiterated President Weah’s commitment to infrastructure development of the country, indicating that his administration is determined to work with all contractors to realize President Weah’s pro poor agenda. 

 

He underscored the need for more inspections of infrastructure projects across the country, acknowledging that it is only through rigorous monitoring and evaluation exercise that value for money can be acquired on these kinds of projects. 

 

“My next inspection will take me on the Buchanan-Greenville highway, Ganta-Tappita-Zwedru, Pleebo-Barclayville, Lofa-Mendikorma, Voinjama-Vahun and other major highways in the country”, he told the press.
