The Government of Liberia and the Japan International Corporation Agency Sign a 1.9km Road Agreement
The Government of Liberia and the Japan International Corporation Agency, JICA, today signed an agreement and collaboration for the extension of the Japan Freeway from the Freeport of Monrovia to the Gabriel Tucker Bridge, which links the Bushrod Island to the City of Monrovia.
The cost of the geometric design is estimated at 43 Million Japanese-Yen ( 291,497.00 USD) has a distance of 1.9 kilometers and is expected to commence shortly. This project comes in fulfillment of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s promise to prioritize major roads and highways throughout the country and ensure they are pliable within the first hundred days of his leadership.
Liberia's Foreign Minister, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, during the signing ceremony today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reaffirmed Liberia’s long-existing friendship and bilateral cooperation with the State of Japan and its taxpayers.
Minister Nyanti also commended the Japanese Government through its Ambassador accredited near Monrovia, Mochizuki Hisanobu for their enormous and continuous assistance to the people of Liberia, which, according to the Minister, continues to be coming both in human resource development and infrastructural initiatives for Liberia.
For his part, the Japanese Ambassador Mochizuki Hisanobu assured the Liberian Government of his Government's commitment to lend support to President Boakai's 100-day plan on road connectivity in Liberia.
In remarks, Public Works Minister Roland Layfette Giddings emphasized his Ministry’s commitment to work with all partners to the Liberian Government including the Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA) for the planning and development of infrastructural layout and the construction of road corridors throughout the Republic. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of this initiative as well as the relief it will bring when completed.
