The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Public Works and the Swedish Government have officially launched the construction of 195 kilometers of Village Access Roads in Bong, Lofa and Nimba Counties.
As a way of further enhancing the logistical capacity of the Ministry of Public Works to provide adequate supervision on the construction of the Cavalla River bridge linking Liberia to La Cote D'Ivoire, the ECOWAS Mission in Liberia has made a donation of a 2024 Toyota Hilux Double Cabin Pickup to the Ministry through the Project Implementation Unit of the African Development Bank.
Since its completion and subsequent dedication in 2011, the Caldwell Road has suffered major depressions resulting from persistent lack of maintenance, thus making traveling near impossible. The Caldwell-Dixville intersection, Sand Beach, and other critical spots along the road have posed strong challenges to the free movement of smaller vehicles for too long a time.
In a spirited address at the Center for the Exchange of Intellectual Opinions, Deputy Minister for Administration A. Samukai Dunnoh highlighted the Ministry of Public Works’ recent successes, detailing upgraded road networks, expanded maintenance programs, and new strategies aimed at accelerating Liberia’s infrastructure development.
The newly reconstructed ITI Bridge was officially dedicated today by Liberia’s Minister of Public Works, Roland Layfette Giddings, during a site visit that drew a large crowd of jubilant residents, traditional leaders, and security officials. The bridge had collapsed in December 2024 after a lowbed truck carrying an excavator far exceeding the 25-ton weight limit—attempted to cross, severely damaging the structure.
