Liberia’s Public Works Minister Mobutu Nyenpan and team have ended day 1 of day 3 assessment exercise.

 

The works Minister along with his team of technical people left Monrovia Today, March 3, 2018 to conduct inspection on critical spots along the Roberts International-Buchanan, Buchanan-Greenville and Ganta-Zwedru highways including bridges.

 

The team also inspected Junk River Bridge, the cat eye installed on the RIA highway, road maintenance training center and a construction camp turned over to the Government of Liberia by Chinese Construction Company (CHICO). 

 

While enroute to Greenville, the team also assessed corridor maintained by Westwood Construction Company with funding from European Union (EU), Timbo and Cestos Bridge as well as the entire primary road network. 

 

The assessment tour by the new minister in the Southeast is the second since he took over the Ministry two weeks ago. 

 

It can be recalled that last week the Minister, ahead of a team of engineers undertook their first assessment tour of ongoing neighborhood road projects in Monrovia. 

 

Road projects inspected include, Diggsville, Kebbah to Gardnersville, Caldwell New Georgia, Somalia Drive, Police Academy, Logan Town-Mombo Town roads, etc.

 

During a brief stop at Timbo River Bridge, the civil engineer stated that the purpose of these tours is to ascertain some basic facts so as to inform his judgment ahead of resumption of major interventions across the country, which according to him remains his major priority in his 150 days deliverable. 

 

The series of road inspection exercise by Minister Nyenapn is in affirmation of a declaration he made before the senate committee on Public Works, that when confirmed, he will work to ensure that no vehicle will get stuck in the mud this coming rainy season. 

 

And so true to his word, the impressive Public Works Minister has begun setting the stage for his dream to make all primary roads passable year round. 

 

He believes that though cost intensive, but it is possible so long as proper mechanisms are put in place in generating the needed resources. 

 

Accordingly, Minister Nyenpan indicated that the venture is part of government pro poor policy to create more opportunities for rural dwellers, adding, it will accelerate commercial activities and at the same time enhances the delivery of medical supplies across the country. 

 

“The pro poor agenda can only take precedence once the ordinary man can be able to transport his goods and services at a lesser cost from one destination to another in exchange for what pleases them”, he reiterated. 

 

Part of his strategy in achieving this dream, the Minister said he intends to transform the ministry into a full-fledged technical ministry, whereby the ministry can be for engineers, by engineers and of engineers. 

 

The second day exercise will cover J.J. W. Johns Bridge, Sinoe Port Bridge and Barclayville road corridor, as well as MPW projects in Barclayville. While in Barclayville, the minister and team are expected to meet with local Public Works’ staff.
