MPW Intensifies Zoning Regulations, Inspects Drainages in Several Communities along Bushrod Island and Japan Freeway alais Somalia Drive

Monrovia, Liberia - In the wake of flooding situations in and around the City, the Ministry of Public Works alongside the Liberia National Police has embarked on the forceful opening of drainages along the Bushrod Island and the Japan Freeway Corridors.

Leading the High-Level Public Works Delegation, the Minister-Designate, Hon. Ruth Coker-Collins stressed that the constitution of a SPECIAL TASKFORCE is being considered aimed at addressing the issue of flooding which is largely due to blocked drainage lines.

Minister Collins, flanked by other Ministers and Directors, on early Sunday morning inspected drainages in Paity's Town, Clara Town, Freeport and Cow Factory Communities, amongst others.

According to her, emergency measures are currently being worked on through a joint effort comprising the Ministry of Public Works, Liberia National Police and Community Leaders to tackle flooding situations, adding that demolition of structures constructed on drainage lines will shortly be carried out.

For his part, the Assistant Minister for Planning and Programmes, Hon. James Reynolds cautioned community dwellers against violation of the Zoning Laws of Liberia.

He reaffirmed the Zoning Division's readiness to clamp down on illegal construction works taking place across the country.

In a related development, several contractors have been arrested by the Liberia National Police on the instruction of the Public Works Minister-Designate, Madam Ruth Coker-Collins for constructing a building slightly beneath the LEC high-tension line in the Jaimaca Road area.
