Government Begins Major Roads Construction

The Government of Liberia (GOL) through the Ministry of Public Works has begun a milestone repair and reconstruction of motor road in Monrovia and its environs, as well as highways including the Red Light- Ganta route linking Guinea border in order to address the perennial problems of bad road condition in the country that impedes economic activities.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information daily press briefing on Ebola, January 6, 2015, the Minister of Public Works, William Gyude Moore said the road problem was visible all over the country, announcing that contractors who fled the country over Ebola were returning.

According to him, the road construction works will focus on the avenues in the capital in order to have an easy access to Ebola facilities.

He said a lot can be achieved when good roads are constructed that would provide the means to support livelihoods.

Minister William Gyude Moore emphasized that good roads will enhance economic activities and other services, including agricultural programs that are vital to social growth.

He maintained that all is set to attract funding from partners to ensure that most of the targeted projects are completed this dry season.

The minister narrated that the Monrovia-Ganta and others significant motor car roads around the country including Grand Kru and Sinoe counties were captured in the plan.

Minister Moore exerted that if Liberia is to recover from the shadow of backwardness, road networks must be a paramount concern, adding that the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Regional Referral Hospital in Tappita, Nimba County had had no impact on the lives of the citizens due to lack of accessible road to the health center.
